About the Artist

After graduating with a Studio Art degree Andrew went on to hold distinguished positions as a graphic designer, illustrator, art professor and art department chair.

Andrew now divides his time between Austin and traveling throughout the southwest for inspiration for his paintings. He creates and produces his work out of his studio in Austin, Texas. In the last couple of years, he has been going through an exploration period combining the human figure with color, abstract forms, and drawing inspiration for his paintings from his proud heritage of Latino and American Indian (mestizo).

Artist Statement
In the early part of my painting career, my images (mainly figurative) were more technical, stemming from my illustration background, however over the years I see that my painting has made a transition to more abstract-representational.

In addition to getting to know the qualities of paints, both oil and acrylic, this exploration period has given me the freedom to expand into other subject matter, and time to explore my heritage and myself.
